Some call this shrub "Pride of Madeira" It is an excellent choice for coastal gardens as it enjoys well drained soil and dry locations.

By nature a coastal plant, the sandy, windy conditions help this plant thrive. This shrub is a great choice as an evergreen perennial an will show flower heads in the spring through the summer months.

Large shrub 4-5 ft. clumps of grey green, narrow leaves on rounded mound. Large beautiful Purple/Blue Delphinium like flowers. When purchasing echium make sure that you have the right species for the right conditions and postion.
Echium should be deadheaded after flowering to prolong plant life and prevent seeding. Echium can be lightly pruned to keep shape. In some parts of the country this plant is considered invasive so check your area information or local nursery to find out information for your particular area.
